In 2017, Qualibasic Seeds (QBS) set out on a mission to deliver superior foundation seeds to seed companies, sparking a transformation in the industry. Reflecting on the journey, Sandra Alai, Commercial Manager at QBS, remarked, "When QBS commenced operations in 2017, we managed to sell 2.4 tons of seed. Fast forward to last year (2023), and our sales reached an impressive 104.60 tons. This remarkable growth has been fueled by the expansion of our customer base."
What began with just four customers in 2018 has blossomed into a clientele of 68 companies spanning 12 countries, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Somalia, and beyond."
Empowering Seed Companies for Success
Most of QBS 's business revolves around maize seed production. Sandra explained, "Our focus on providing foundation seeds allows seed companies to concentrate on producing quality hybrid seeds without the high investment costs associated with foundation seed production." By leveraging economies of scale and a dedicated team, QBS ensures quality assurance and control at every step.
Sandra highlighted, "We take the headache off small companies by providing them with foundation seeds, enabling them to focus on their core business of hybrid seed production." QBS's meticulous approach to seed production, including germination testing and purity checks, ensures that customers receive top-quality seeds for further cultivation.
Driving Innovation and Collaboration
While QBS does not dictate seed varieties, the company collaborates closely with seed companies to recommend new varieties for improved yield and quality. Sandra emphasized, "We work closely with customers, advising them on adopting new varieties and providing samples for trial purposes. Our collaboration extends to facilitating registration and licensing processes for new seed varieties."
Commitment to Excellence and Customer Satisfaction
Sandra stressed the importance of long-term partnerships with customers, encouraging them to plan for consistent seed supply over multiple years to maximize economies of scale. By offering storage services and ensuring on-time and in-full deliveries, QBS aims to reduce costs and risks for seed companies while maintaining high standards of seed production.
In conclusion, Sandra affirmed, “Our dedication to customer focus and quality production sets us apart in the industry. We are committed to driving innovation, fostering collaboration, and ensuring the success of our customers through reliable and top-quality seed services.”
As QBS continues to make strides in the seed production industry, their story serves as an inspiration for companies striving for excellence and innovation in agriculture.
